Microfiber, nubuck, water-repellent leather, polyurethane - have you ever wondered how to care for your footwear? Extend their lifespan with our Care Guide 101.
CLEANING
For a thorough clean, remove the laces from your footwear. Then, use a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, mud or stains from the surface and outsole.
APPLY SPECIFIC PRODUCTS
Each material requires specialized care, so be sure to check before using any product.
- Leather : To preserve its texture and flexibility, apply a wax. There are two types of wax on the market, depending on your needs:
- Cream Wax : Nourishing care penetrates leather easily, and is ideal for robust leather. This is the most popular and widely used option.
- Paste Polish : Prevents drying out, offers waterproofing, has a greasy texture and adds shine. It is primarily composed of wax.
*** Avoid excessive water when cleaning, as it can cause leather to dry out and crack. Never use products containing silicone. If your leather shoes have sealed seams and were pre-treated, applying additional protector is unnecessary. ***
- Polyurethane : Easy to clean and highly durable, polyurethane boots can be washed with mild soap and left to air dry. However, beware of prolonged sun exposure, as PU can dry out and crack over time!
- Microfiber : Unlike leather, microfiber does not require waxing or polishing. A simple wipe with a damp cloth is usually enough to remove dirt and contaminants.
**IMPORTANT: Never use cleaning products containing silicone, as they can damage the microfiber's protective layer and compromise waterproofing.
DRYING
Don't forget to remove your laces and insoles for complete air drying. Ideally let your footwear dry in a dry, well-ventilated area.
CONCLUSION
Taking good care of your footwear extends their life. Don't neglect them - they're an important ally in your work!
